BRGC Annual Holiday Party

Our annual holiday party will take place this year at the Echota On the Ridge Clubhouse. This event is a potluck event where we will play some holiday games, eat good food and celebrate another wonderful year together.
Bring to the party:
1) your favorite food to share. Email what you plan to bring
2) a gift for a festive exchange (under $25)
3) An item that we can raffle off along with cash or check to try and win items. Suggested items to raffle: holiday treat, gardening items, festive home decor, wine, candle, plants....

This meeting will start with a very special speaker, our very own Lucille Hipp! Lucille is our longest-standing club member and is going to speak to our club about the history of our sweet club! With so many new members, this is a great meeting to attend to learn more about where and how the club started. There will be some refreshments and a light lunch.
Our November Bake Sale this year will be postponed and in lieu of this, we are going to have an Unbaked-Bake Sale. Please consider contributing to the Unbaked-Bake Sale saving you money money spent on gas, time and energy purchasing ingredients, time and energy baking, and all the above working the day of the sale. Kindly consider this option to donate and tell us your favorite baked goods, maybe even share a favorite recipe we can circulate at the Xmas party! Please bring donations to the next meeting or mail them to Treasurer, Kathryne Brafman. If you need her address please email her at: kzbrafman@gmail.com
We are excited to have this meeting at the Watauga Arts Council as they are such a wonderful organization supporting arts in the High Country. Please visit their website if you have not had a chance yet to check out the awesome programs they provide.

Winery Event
Annual Fall Winery Gathering

Gather to celebrate a season of gardening with each other at the Grandfather Winery! The winery event will begin at 12:30 pm and Lunch will be provided. There are also food trucks on site.
We will begin the festivities with our program about the vineyard and types of grapes grown on the Vineyard by speaker, Nicole Tatum, followed by the introduction of new members. Members will enjoy a catered lunch and have a little fun a Fall Trivia. Live music will be from 3-5 by Tom Pavillion.

Due to the GCNC Fall District 1 Meeting, we will be holding a short meeting to address new club business. The two-day event will be our program for the month and since we will not be addressing specific club business during this meeting, we will hold a short meeting to discuss new business by President Janice LaCapra. There will be no refreshments provided at this meeting as it will be short.

Sunday, September 10, and Monday September 11.
Meet other GCNC club members and join us for fellowship, education and fun! Take information back for your garden, your club and your community. There will be wonderful new friendships, educational experiences, and fun programs to enjoy. This meeting is being put on by District 2 clubs and a program is soon to come.

We have a very hard-working committee who volunteered to participate in this event and are working tirelessly to fulfill all the needs.
Look for the invitation to the meeting soon by the GCNC. In early July be ready to sign up for registration. There is a short window, so get registered and act fast. Blue Ridge Garden Club is the hosting Garden Club and the largest club in the District. We expect great participation in this conference!

Springhouse Farms Seed Program and Flower Pick
Nothing says summertime like a bag lunch in a field full of flowers am I right? Come join us at Springhouse Farms for an afternoon of friends and flower bouquet picking!
The program starts at 11:00 am, with a walking tour of the greenhouses on the property. After that, the group will meet in the pavilion area for a seed-starting program where the owner, Amy Fielder, will walk us through the steps of how to grow your flowers from seed! Following the program, you will have the opportunity to pay a discounted price of $15 to pick your own bouquet from the flower fields (RSVP required and bucket and snips provided). You will be able to enjoy refreshments under the pavilion provided by hosts, Kathryne and Shirley, and any lunch you bring. Bring a friend, or a few, and come pick some beautiful flowers together!
Parking: Please carpool if possible and park along the right side of the road as you pull in. There is a sign that is marked “Guest Parking”, please pull forward as much as possible to allow for as much room for all the members.
Bring: a hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses as the Pavillion is shaded but the tour and flower picking are in the sun!
Reminder- if you have donations to bring for the silent auction or gift basket we are making for the District Meeting please bring them with you to this program!

Appstate Tree Tour & Roots Garden
We are excited and grateful to welcome back Appstate Arborist Chris Erikson and Matt Alff to take us on a walking tour of the East side campus urban Native Trees. They will be walking us through how they use the compost from their composting facility to fertilize the trees, as well as, the history of selections and how they treat their pest problems. This is a follow-up program to the one they did for us last year at their composting facility.
The group will meet first at the Jones House Meeting Room to review some quick club business and then head over to meet Chris and Matt near Howard Street Hall. We will be touring Appstate Campus Urban Trees and learning about sustainable and organic pest control, fertilizing, and maintenance. We look forward to learning about the great variety of Trees on campus and how the university is striving to care for them.
Light Pastries and Coffee will be available at the Jones House Prior to the walking tour on campus.

Annual June Picnic
Bringing in the summer with sunshine, picnic offerings, and plant swap! We will be hosting this month’s program at the historic Mast Farm Inn and Garden located in Valle Crucis. Please join as we will hear about the history of the Inn and Garden from one of the garden heads, Shelton Caldwell.
